Fighters threaten to attack foreign ships in Somali waters

- MOGADISHU (Xinhua) -- Fighters in Somalia on Wednesday denounced the authorization by the UN Security Council for foreign warships to patrol Somali waters, local media reports said.
Speaking to a local radio by phone, Shiek Muqtar Robow, spokesman for Al-shabaab, a military rebel group, threatened to attack any foreign ships that transgress Somali territorial waters.
"The UN, the United States and Ethiopian troops are all one and the same to us and we will fight them all," Robow told Shabelle Radio in Mogadishu.
This comes two days after the UN Security Council authorized the use of force by foreign navies to tackle piracy in Somali waters, where piracy has been rife since the overthrow of the former ruler Mohamed Siyad in 1991.
